Is there anything I can do to prepare before registration?

Due to high demand for camps, spots fill fast! We HIGHLY recommend creating a user account well in advance of February 14. An ACTIVENet account is necessary to register for camp. Learn more about registration and creating an account.

How do I register for camp?

An ACTIVENet account is required to register for camp. If you have not already created an account, it is recommended to do so before registration opens. Create an ACTIVENet account

If you already have an account, be sure to confirm login credentials in advance of registration opening. If you do not remember your password, click on "Forgot Password" to reset it using the e-mail associated with your account. Multiple unsuccessful login attempts may result in the account being locked. Log into ACTIVENet

Do I need to fill out additional forms?

When registering a camper for a session, required information will be collected through the NOVA Parks online registration system, including emergency contacts, special needs, and authorized pickups, with the exception of information specific to EpiPens and inhalers.

Can I be added to your email distribution list for summer camps?

Absolutely! If you have signed up for any previous Camp Grow offerings, the email address you used for registration is already on our distribution list and will receive an email update about registration day, camp information, etc. If you are a first-time customer and would like to be added to this list, or if you would like to be removed, please contact us at meadowlark@nvrpa.org

Can my camper be added to a camp if spots are full?

We will only be able to add campers to a session if there are open spots. However, you can add your camper to the waitlist for any session on the Registration page. Adding your camper to the waitlist is free, and each year we register many campers from our waitlists when spots do become available.

Can my camper be enrolled in a camp if they are too young or too old?

This is decided by camp management on a case-by-case basis, as we will need to override the age requirements to register them. You must email us at meadowlark@nvrpa.org to request this. Please understand that there are no guarantees that exceptions will be made, and camp spots are purely on a first come first serve basis. Our recommendation is to register your camper for a session that they meet the age requirements for first, and then if needed reach out about the session you are interested in having us enroll them in. This is to ensure your camper doesn’t miss out on a camp experience entirely.

What if my child has special needs?

When registering, special needs may be noted in the online registration form. Additional information such as significant shyness or specific fears (for example, snakes) can be helpful for staff. If assistance is needed in determining whether Camp Grow is a good fit, or to discuss a camper's needs in relation to camp activities and staffing, please contact Program Manager Jules Maloney by emailing jmaloney@nvrpa.org or calling 703-255-3631 ext.1803.

How does Camp Grow manage inclement weather?

Camp Grow uses the Historic Log Cabin (Meadowlark Botanical Gardens' Headquarters) and Visitor Center, as well as gazebos and pavilions throughout the property, to provide shelter from summer heat and storms. Activities are scheduled and adjusted based on weather conditions. Staff incorporate water and shade breaks throughout the day and are trained to respond to heat-related health concerns.

What should campers bring to camp each day?

Since most camp activities take place outdoors, campers should arrive each day with the following items:

  • Backpack
  • Sunscreen and bug repellent (Please apply each morning before camp.)
  • Water bottle (Water is available for refills; large-capacity bottles are not recommended, as they can be heavy to carry during walks.)
  • Lunch and a snack packed in a lunch bag or box for half-day and full-day camps
  • Sneakers (Open-toe shoes and Croc-style shoes are not permitted.)
  • An extra change of clothes, in case campers get wet
  • Raincoat if rain is expected (A foldable rain poncho fits easily in a backpack.)

Clothing should be suitable for getting dirty.

Additional helpful items include a towel, a hat, and gardening gloves. Campers should not bring toys or electronic devices to camp.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds for Missed Camp Days

Refunds are not provided for missed camp days due to illness nor for changed work or vacation schedules.

Refunds for a Camp Session (Full Week)

  • Refunds are not permitted within 59 days of the start of the camp session.
  • Refund requests submitted at least 60 days prior to the start of the camp session will be considered only if the vacated spot can be filled by another camper. If the spot is filled, the registration fee will be refunded minus a $50 administrative fee.

How can I reach Camp Grow staff?

Staff can be reached by calling Meadowlark Botanical Gardens during operating hours at 703-255-3631 or by emailing us at meadowlark@nvrpa.org. We anticipate higher phone and email volume on February 14 due to registration. Please be aware of the possibility that it may take several calls, or longer wait times between emails, before you are able to reach or hear back from us. We will do our best to answer all questions in a timely fashion!
