Located adjacent to Atlantis Waterpark, this trailhead marks the beginning - or the end, depending on your perspective - of the Bull Run Occoquan Trail. NOVA Park’s longest natural surface trail at 19.7 miles, the BROT, also known as the blue trail, connects Bull Run, Hemlock Overlook, Bull Run Marina and Fountainhead Regional Parks.
Tracing a 40-mile route on two tributary waterways of the Chesapeake Bay, paddling adventures await as you explore a vast and changing landscape, spanning 13,000 years of human history, past 10,000 acres of public lands dedicated to resource conservation in northern Virginia. Access with public parking can be found at Occoquan, Fountainhead, Bull Run Marina, Pohick Bay and Bull Run.
Blue Ridge Regional Park offers a modest trail system for members of the organized youth camping groups staying at the park. Enjoy a relatively easy hike through the woods near base campa 1.25 mile loop trail. The trail provides opportunities to view various types of wildlife, as well as a number of different types of local foliage. Open to youth group campers only.
Reservoir Park offers a pedestrian only 8 mile loop trail and connection to Loudoun County’s Goose Creek Pointe Park trail. Hiker’s are encouraged to access the trail system at Reservoir Park. Additional trail access is located at Loudoun County’s Edgar Tillet Park, and Reservoir Road. Please note that parking at Reservoir Road is roadside only and is very limited. Bicycles are encouraged within Reservoir Park on all paved paths. However, for the long term sustainability of the natural surface trail system, bicycles and motorized vehicles are not permitted on the natural surface trails. Hiking trail maps are available through All Trails and QR codes linking to the trail map will be posted on trailheads and on trail markers.
Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Regional Park offers several options to enhance your visit to the park. Join one of our expert volunteer guides as they bring history to life or meander through the park on your own for a self-guided tour. Battlefield tours are open to the public every Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 1pm from early April through the end of November. These free tours are conducted by our volunteer interpreters and offer amazing insight to the battle that took place at Ball’s Bluff. Tours last from one to two hours and require a moderate ability to walk approximately one mile on woodland trails.
