Scouting America: Personal Fitness
Next Date
Through discussion, physical exercise, and real-world experiences, scouts will gain a better understanding of why physical health is so important and what can be done to ensure a healthy future.
This merit badge has a 12-week record requirement and may not be completed on the day of class. Before class, scouts must have a physical and dental examination using the scout medical examination form (Health Form part C) and have completed the following requirements:
- 6. a.b: Run or walk a mile as fast as you can. Record the time.
- 6.b.: Keep track of what you eat and drink for three days.
- 9: Find out about three career opportunities in personal fitness, pick one and find out the education, training and experience required for this profession.
Scouts may earn the badge on the day of the class if they have already completed, in writing, requirements 6, 7, and 8—this includes finishing the 12-week fitness program outlined in requirement 7, setting fitness goals, and recording fitness measurements every four weeks. For scouts who still need to complete or review any remaining requirements, follow-up arrangements can easily be made to review their work and sign off on those items.
