Fairfax Station, Va. (October 29, 2026) — In an effort to increase e-Mobility awareness and enhance safety along all trails in Arlington County, including NOVA Parks’ Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park (W&OD) and its trail, Arlington County and NOVA Parks will host E-Mobility Trail Safety Outreach Events on Saturday, Nov. 7, between 1-3 p.m., at various locations in Arlington County.
“The W&OD connects Northern Virginia’s communities, and we appreciate the tremendous partnership with our local law enforcement agencies to ensure those communities remain safe,” said NOVA Parks Executive Director Justin Wilson. “NOVA Parks and our partner jurisdictions along the trail are working together closely to help ensure the safety of all trail users by hosting educational events and revising the W&OD regulations to clarify which e-bikes are permitted.”
All ages are encouraged to attend the free e-Mobility Trail Safety Outreach Events to learn about state and local laws being enforced along trails in Arlington and in W&OD Park, as well as safe operation of e-bikes, electric dirt bikes, electric scooters, mopeds, and other electric personal mobility devices. Responsible riding and trail etiquette will be highlighted, and examples of acceptable e-bikes will be on display. The events will take place at the following locations:
- W&OD Trail and Columbia Pike Intersection (Glencarlyn Park seating area)
- Bluemont Junction Park (along the trail and near the Bluemont Caboose)
- Intersection of Langston Blvd. and N. Lynne St. (Custis - Mt. Vernon Trail Area north of Gateway Park)
“As e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motos become more common in the region, we are also seeing an increase in crashes and safety concerns, especially among young riders," said Maureen Coffey, Vice Chair of the Arlington County Board. “That’s why Arlington County, as part of the updated Vision Zero Action Plan, is working to educate riders and help keep our trails, roads, and shared spaces safe for everyone.”
The upcoming event is part of a regional effort between NOVA Parks, local jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies following a recent increase in the use of e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motos, accompanied by a rise in crashes and safety concerns involving higher-speed devices. Since August 1, e-bike and trail safety events have been hosted with the Counties of Fairfax and Loudoun and the Towns of Vienna and Herndon.
The event supports Arlington County’s Vision Zero Action Plan to work with partners toward the goal of achieving zero transportation-related deaths and serious injuries on Arlington streets and trails by 2030.

The regional agency manages 37 parks with 12,500 acres of parkland, including waterparks, golf courses, campsites, historic sites, event venues, boat launches, annual holiday light shows, and a vertical adventure course.
About Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park
Often called the skinniest park in Virginia, Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park (W&OD Park) contains a 45-mile paved trail between Arlington and Purcellville, Virginia. The park and trail are named for the railroad that last traveled along its path, helping establish many hubs for economic development, which are now Arlington, Falls Church, Vienna, Reston, Herndon, Sterling, Leesburg, and Purcellville. The W&OD is now an important carbon-free transportation network for its more than 2 million users per year.
