Join us for a Civil War living history program with the 1st Maine Cavalry, who will recreate life in camp, explain their uniforms and equipment, give demonstrations of cavalry weapons, and talk about the crucial role of the horse in the war.  11:00AM dedication of a monument to the men of the 1st Maine, which includes the names of 17 cavalrymen who died from wounds received during the actions at Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville, June 17-21, 1863, in what has come to be known as the “prelude to Gettysburg.”  Loudoun historian Richard Gillespie will offer guided tours of the battlefield at 12:00 and 4:00.  Free and no registration is required.
